How does it work in the search window?

Select Create column in the search window toolbar, then select the Arc tangent operation. As said above, you can add one argument to get the arc tangent of the numbers in the selected field, or two arguments to calculate the arc tangent of the given x- coordinates.

Argument

Data type

Argument 1 (mandatory)

integer, float

Argument 2

integer, float

The data type of the values in the new column is float.

The examples in this article use values in a data table generated from the following CSV file.

Ui button

If you want to try the example for yourself, download the file and upload it to your domain by clicking Data upload in the navigation panel. Name the new table my.upload.sample.data and select Current date as Date parsing type. Learn more about uploading data in Uploading log files.

After receiving the confirmation message, you can access the table from the Finder, selecting my → upload → sample → data. When you upload data from a file, all the information is included in a single column called message. To split the values and extract those we need for this operation into a new column, you can use the Split operation. Click Toggle Query Editor in the search window toolbar and paste the following LINQ query to save time:

from my.upload.sample.data
select split(message, ";", 17) as `-1to1Values`
select float(`-1to1Values`) as `-1to1Values_float`

...

We want to get the arc tangent of all the numbers in the -1to1Values_float column. To do it, we will create a new column using the Arc tangent operation. Let's call the new column arcTangent.

...

Use the operator select... as...  and add the operation syntax to create the new column. These are the valid formats of the Arc tangent operation:

  • atan(number)  → Use this expression to get the arc tangent of the values in the given numeric column.

  • atan(number1, number2)  → Use this expression to get the arc tangent of the specified x- and y-coordinates.

Example 1

You can copy the following LINQ script and try the above example on the my.upload.sample.data table.

Code Block
from my.upload.sample.data
select split(message, ";", 17) as `-1to1Values`
select float(`-1to1Values`) as `-1to1Values_float`
  select atan(`-1to1Values_float`) as arcTangent

Example 2

You can copy the following LINQ script and try the above example on the demo.ecommerce.data table.

Code Block
from demo.ecommerce.data
  select atan(-3, 9) as arcTangentCoords
