Basic monitoring

Show graphs

For a more visual approach when monitoring status, you can activate a set of autogenerated graphs to better analyze the performance markers associated with each machine. You just need to click the Show graphs toggle of the corresponding row. You can also click the Show all graphs toggle at the top if you want to show all machines' graphs.

The graphs you can see here represent each machine main parameters (load, CPU, memory and disk) during the last 24 hours.

Create Alerts

To enhance the monitoring process and help you identify performance issues, this application offers you the possibility to create alerts to be triggered whenever certain thresholds are exceeded. The procedure is as follows:

  • Show graphs as shown in the section above.

  • Click the New Alert button that appears in the machine row upon graphs activation.

  • Specify all the required information and click Add Alert.

Context

Context

Select one of the pre-installed alerts from the dropdown. Each of them is associated with a type of marker to monitor and a set of predefined conditions for your alert.
Those labeled as "custom" offer you the possibility to choose your own set of conditions for your alert, which can be customized with the options explained below.

Threshold

Measure

Type the number you want to set as the triggering gauge.

The unit of measure for the threshold, such as kbps, number or percentage.

Operation Type

Interval (min)

Select a mathematical criterion from the dropdown to specify the condition over the threshold (to be or not to be exceeded, reached, etc.).

Type the periodicity (in minutes) for the system to be scanned in search of deviations from the conditions specified for the alert. Establishing a ten-minute interval means that the performance marker will be scanned every ten minutes to check if, during the latest ten-minute period elapsed, the conditions for the alert were met.

Apply To

Analysis type

You can choose to apply the alert to all your machines or just to specific ones. When you choose Machine from the dropdown, all machine s will be displayed for you to check the boxes of the ones you want.

Select the criteria to treat the measurements. If you choose Avg, the data for the period will be considered holistically and an average will be calculated and compared to the threshold. If you choose Peak, the data for the period will be considered individually and the highest value (or lowest depending on the operation type specified) will be compared to the threshold.

Add tags

If you have several machines to monitor, you can add tags to better identify them.

Be aware that tags are domain-dependent. This means that every user in the domain with access to the application will be able to see and use the tags you apply.

  • Show graphs as shown in the section above.

  • Click inside the Add Tag field, type the name you want for your tag and press Enter.

  • The tag is created and applied to the current machine. All tags applied will appear in the Filter Tags area next to the Add Tag field.

  • If you want to remove a tag, you just need to click the cross of the corresponding tag.

Show filters

Once you have added your tags, you can filter the machines by tag to quickly spot them.

  • Click the Show Filter toggle at the top. The Filter Tags area shows the tags that are applied to at least one machine.

  • Click one of the tags to show only those machines with that tag. The tag will turn green to indicate it is being used as a filter.
If you click several tags, only those machines containing both tags will be shown.

  • Click a tag again to stop using it as a filter or click Clear Filter at the top to stop using all of them as filters.
