Assign resources to a role

Both default and custom roles can be given access to Devo applications, dashboardspanelsActiveboards and alerts. Public resources in your domain will appear listed in its corresponding tab and you can make them available to the users with specific roles.

Those tabs will be inaccessible unless you give the role the corresponding permission on the Permissions tab.

Applications, Dashboards and Panels

Even though the permissions over resources enable you to certain actions regarding your own resources, you need specific permissions over resources created by others. This is achieved by assigning resources to a role.

Applications, Dashboards and Panels are not included in the role tabs by default when you create them. You need to make them public first. Each type of resource has a different way to make it public. Go to the corresponding articles (applicationsdashboards, and panels) to learn more about their specific sharing options. On top of that, if you have not made public at least one of them, the tab will be inaccessible.

  1. Select a role from the left area.
  2. Click the ApplicationsDashboards or Panels tab.
  3. The list on the left contains the available resources while the list on the right contains the resources assigned to the role. Select the desired resource.

  4. Click the corresponding arrow to move it from one list to the other.
  5. Click Apply changes.

If you try to select another role without applying the changes, you will get a warning message prompting you to save them if you do not want to lose them.

Activeboards

Even though the permissions over Activeboards enable you certain actions regarding your own Activeboards, you need specific permissions over Activeboards created by others. This is achieved by assigning Activeboards to a role.

Activeboards are not included in the role tabs by default when you create them. You need to share them first. Learn how to do it in the Sharing Activeboards article. On top of that, the Activeboards tab will not be accessible if you have not marked as shareable at least one of them.

  1. Select a role from the left area.
  2. Click the Activeboards tab.
  3. The list contains the available Activeboards. The procedure to assign them is the same as with Permissions; check the boxes with View and Manage levels.
These two levels correspond to the view and edit modes in the Activeboards area. Check the following link to know more about it.

  4. Click Apply changes.

If you try to select another role without applying the changes, you will get a warning message prompting you to save them if you do not want to lose them.

Alerts

Apart from permissions over alerts (Alert configuration and Triggered Alerts), you need specific permissions over certain alerts (or alert categories) to be able to perform the intended actions. The permissions will dictate the area of the app as well as the kind of action the role can perform, while the alerts will dictate the specific alerts or kind of alerts involved.

The ability to perform actions related to alerts depends on this combination of permissions and resources:

  • Assigning permissions without assigning alerts will result in the inability to perform the intended action (either view or manage). See Role permissions to know more about the actions each level involve.
  • Assigning only alerts without permissions is not allowed by the app.
  • The permission level determines the maximum level for alerts and breaking this rule is not allowed by the app. For example, if you set the permissions to view, you cannot set an alert to manage. However, if you set the permissions to manage, you can choose that a specific alert category is set to view while the rest are set to manage. Be careful though, because setting all the alerts to view while the permissions are set to manage, will result in the inability to perform any management action in any alert.
  1. Select a role from the left area.
  2. Click the Alerts tab.
  3. The list contains the available Alerts divided into categories. The procedure to assign them is the same as with Permissions; check the boxes with View and Manage levels.

  4. Click Apply changes.
