Field viewer

About the Field viewer

Clicking this option opens the Field viewer, which shows the list of fields and stat counts for data downloaded to the browser for the query period. The panel remains open and visible at all times until you choose to close it.

You can use the Field viewer for two different purposes: display statistics associated with all of the distinct values of the fields and manage those fields in the data search window.

What permissions do I need?

You don’t need a special permission to use it apart from the Finders permission required to run searches. However, you need the Stat count of searches permission to obtain the full stats and the Show/hide fields permission to edit the layout and save it for future searches.

The Field viewer provides means to interact with the fields inside a data table so you can adapt the table to your workflow and carry out different tasks conveniently and effortlessly.

Displaying stats

Load full period stats

If you want to work with more precise data and get the whole dataset from the server, you can click the Show full period stats/Get full stats button. The Stat count info lets you know about the amount of data currently downloaded from the server (click the help icon to know what each level means).

You can choose specific fields to download their data by using the Bulk option next to the search box. This option appears after showing full period stats and before getting full stats.

 

 

 

 

See distinct values

To know the stats of a field simply click on its name and a new panel opens. In this panel you can see the following information:

Name, data type and number of unique values inside this field

Top values: select if you want to see Local, Estimated or Exact data (depending on the amount of data downloaded from the server, as explained above).
You can also select how many top values you want to see (up to 100).

Estimated vs Exact

The difference between exact and estimated can be better observed in fields with a high degree of data dispersion. The estimation algorithm is sometimes precise enough to return the actual number, which explains cases in which there is no difference between either figure.

Exclude null: activate this toggle to exclude null values for a more accurate analysis.

List of unique values in the selected field. Click a value to filter the data in your search and show only events with that value.
The blue bar below each value represents the proportions of the value count in relation to the total number of events. Next to each value, you can see the numerical correspondence under the Count and Percentage columns.

Use these icons to perform the following actions:

  • Add value to conditional formatting - Add conditional formatting to the appearance of this value in the column. This works in both Table and List view. Clicking on this icon opens the conditional formatting options for that specific field.

  • Edit - Add a new conditional formatting condition related with the corresponding field.

  • Open in a new browser tab - For a more convenient workflow, click this button to open your query in a new browser tab.

Conditional formatting

Choose fields to add formatting to and add up to a maximum of five conditions that specify an operator and value, along with text and background color, to apply to the matching cells. The first formatting that matches will be the one applied.

Conditional formatting can be accessed three ways:

  • From the Field viewer directly.

  • From the contextual menu.

  • From the column menu.

Each condition provides a preview along with tags that indicate the visual format and the value. Make sure to apply the changes before exiting and they are shown as follows:

  1. This icon indicates that a field has conditional formatting applied to it as well as the number of conditions applied.

  2. The conditional formatting tab open with the conditions set.

  3. How it is shown in the data table.

Conditional formatting persists between sessions. Logging out does not remove the conditional formatting set by the user.

Conditional formatting for one field is only removed when all of its conditions are removed.
