Multiplication, product (mul, *)
Description
Creates a field that returns the product of two or more numbers or the product of an integer number and a duration.
How does it work in the search window?
Select Create field in the search window toolbar, then select the Multiplication, product operation. You need to specify at least two arguments (Multiply and by). You can add as many by arguments as required.
Argument | Data type |
---|---|
Multiply mandatory | integer, float |
by mandatory | integer, float, duration |
The data type of the values in the new field is integer / float (when you multiply an integer or float by another number) or duration (when you multiply an integer by a duration).
Example
In the my.upload.sample.data
table, we want to use the multiply, product by 2 operation on the values in the numbers_int field of our table.
The arguments needed to create the new field are:
Multiply - numbers_int field
by - Click the pencil icon and enter 2
Click Create field and you will see the following result:
How does it work in LINQ?
Use the operator select
... as
... and add the operation syntax to create the new field. These are the valid formats of the Multiplication, product operation:
number1 * number2 * number3...
mul(number1, number2, number3...)
integer * duration
mul(integer, duration)
Using this operation in Activeboards
Be aware that using this operation in Activeboards presents an important limitation: the number of arguments is limited to two.
As a workaround, you can perform subsequent multiplication operations until you have multiplied all the arguments you need. Visit this article for more syntax differences between the Search Window and Activeboards.
Workaround example → select mul(number1, number2) as A, mul(A, number3) as B, mul(B, number4) as C...
Example
You can copy the following LINQ scripts and try the above example on the my.upload.sample.data
table.
from my.upload.sample.data
select split(message, ";", 17) as numbers,
int(numbers) as numbers_int,
numbers_int * 2 as `numbers_int*2`
or
from my.upload.sample.data
select split(message, ";", 17) as numbers,
int(numbers) as numbers_int,
mul(numbers_int, 2) as `numbers_int*2`
