Block a search

Overview

You can protect or block a search to prevent any user in your domain from modifying it. This is useful when, for example, you create a particularly complex search and you don't want to risk accidentally modifying it.

What permissions do I need?

To block searches, you don’t need any other permission apart from that required to run searches, at least the View level of the Finders permission (visit Run a search using a finder to know more).

Blocking from an open search

Blocking from outside a search

You can also block searches from the Favorite searches and Search history lists.

Unblocking a search

Blocked search are indicated with a lock icon in the Favorite searches and Search history lists. Blocked searches can be unblocked in these areas by clicking the lock icon.

Be aware that even though the process of blocking a search is performed automatically, the process of unblocking requires an in-between step. For a search to be unblocked it is necessary to close it after clicking the lock icon and then reopen it from the Favorite searches or Search history sections.
