Setting a time range in Activeboards

Editing mode vs viewing mode

Time ranges in Activeboards work on a individual basis. This means that each Activeboard can have its own time range, which optimizes navigation and data retrieval by avoiding unnecessary configuration upon access.

However, to make an Activeboard’s time range persist for anyone accessing it in the future, it is necessary to first activate the editing mode. If this step is not taken, any changes made to the Activeboard time range will not be saved after leaving the area.

Time-range controls

You can use the general time-range controls in the Activeboards area to apply different time ranges or enable real-time to all the widgets in your Activeboard. Alternatively, you can assign a specific time range to an individual widget. Apart from the time-range controls, you can find options related to query connection at the top right. All of them are described below:

  1. The Time-range fields. Here you can click to open the time window, see your time selections reflected, and manually enter date expressions.

  2. The Calendar from which you can select absolute dates.

  3. The Preset intervals. Here you can choose a predetermined relative or snap-to time range that takes the current moment as a reference endpoint.

  4. The Real-time button. This enables the option to constantly update the widgets to always show the most updated data. To activate it, it is required to have now as the end date.

  5. The Active refresh menu. Check the dedicated article to know everything about this function.

  6. The Cancel Queries button. This stops all widget queries currently in progress and also stops the real-time function.

When setting time ranges, it is important to consider different aspects related to the type of time range specified and the method chosen to do it. You can use the interface to set absolute, relative or snap-to dates (check all the details here). You can also introduce time ranges manually using date language expressions (check how to use them properly here).

Set a time range for your Activeboard

When you set a specific time range for an Activeboard, the widgets' data is automatically recalculated and only the results for the selected time range are displayed. Simply click the time-range area in the top-right corner to define a new period in the window that appears, then click Apply to recalculate the Activeboard's data.

Keep in mind that selecting the ISO week option for a snap to time range means that your week begins on Monday. By default, the week in Devo always begins on Sunday. If you use the platform in Spanish then your week begins on Monday by default.

Set a custom time range for your widget or input

You can also set specific time ranges for individual widgets by clicking the widgets' top bar and enabling the Custom Date Range option at the bottom of the Data tab. This will display a time-range picker that expands upon clicking and works exactly the same as the Activeboard general one. After applying the desired dates, an icon will be displayed on the widget to identify it as a widget with a Custom Date Range. Remember that setting a custom time range for a widget overrides the period selected for the Activeboard.

Keep in mind that selecting the ISO week option for a snap to time range means that your week begins on Monday. By default, the week in Devo always begins on Sunday. If you use the platform in Spanish then your week begins on Monday by default.
