Description

Creates a field that returns the product of two or more numbers or the product of an integer number and a duration.

How does it work in the search window?

Select Create field in the search window toolbar, then select the Multiplication, product operation. You need to specify at least two arguments (Multiply and by). You can add as many by arguments as required.

Argument

Data type

Multiply mandatory

integer, float

by mandatory

integer, float, duration

The data type of the values in the new field is integer / float (when you multiply an integer or float by another number) or duration (when you multiply an integer by a duration).

The examples in this article use values in a data table generated from the following CSV file.

Ui button
titleDownload CSV file here
url
View file
nameSample.data.csv

If you want to try the example for yourself, download the file and upload it to your domain by clicking Data upload in the navigation panel. Name the new table my.upload.sample.data and select Current date as Date parsing type. Learn more about uploading data in Uploading log files.

After receiving the confirmation message, you can access the table from the Finder, selecting my → upload → sample → data. When you upload data from a file, all the information is included in a single field called message. To split the values into different fields, you can use the Split operation. Click Toggle Query Editor in the search window toolbar and paste the following LINQ query to save time:

from my.upload.sample.data
select split(message, ";", 17) as numbers,
int(numbers) as numbers_int

In the my.upload.sample.data table, we want to use the multiply, product by 2 operation on the values in the numbers_int field of our table.

...

Use the operator select... as...  and add the operation syntax to create the new field. These are the valid formats of the Multiplication, product operation:

  • number1 * number2 * number3...

  • mul(number1, number2, number3...)

  • integer * duration

  • mul(integer, duration)

Info

Using this operation in Activeboards

Be aware that using this operation in Activeboards presents an important limitation: the number of arguments is limited to two.

As a workaround, you can perform subsequent multiplication operations until you have multiplied all the arguments you need. Visit this article for more syntax differences between the Search Window and Activeboards.

Workaround example → select mul(number1, number2) as A, mul(A, number3) as B, mul(B, number4) as C...

Example

You can copy the following LINQ scripts and try the above example on the my.upload.sample.data table.

Code Block
from my.upload.sample.data
select split(message, ";", 17) as numbers,
int(numbers) as numbers_int,
numbers_int * 2 as `numbers_int*2`

...
