Please note that using aggregation tasks may entail an extra charge to your usual Devo subscription fee.

When you set up a query as an aggregation task, it will give you great performance when you use it to feed widgets in a dashboard or Activeboard, and also Devo applications. This is because an aggregation task creates a background task that continually updates and aggregates the query's values. This way new data is more quickly reflected in the dashboard widget the aggregation task is feeding.

Using data sources in Activeboards

Keep in mind that in Activeboards, aggregation tasks generated from a widget's source query are automatically used to optimize the widget performance, so you don't need to do anything more after setting up the aggregation task following the instructions in this article. Learn more in Working with Activeboard widgets.

In order for a query to be set up as an aggregation task, it needs to group the events.

Here's how to create a new aggregation task:

  1. Go to Data Search and run the query that generates the data you require for your dashboard widget.

  2. Click the gear icon and select New → Aggregation task.

You must group your data before creating a new aggregation task. However, the option will be disabled if you group your data multiple times.

  3. The New aggregation task window appears. Enter the required information and click Create

This table lists and describes the fields in this window.

NameEnter a name for the aggregation task.
DescriptionEnter a description of the aggregation task.
TagsEnter tags that help categorize the aggregation task.
Build FromEnter the date from which you want to start collecting data.
Minimum grouping periodSelect how often you want data to be aggregated. Choose between 1 minute5 minutes, 30 minutes or Auto (default option).
In real timeCheck this option if you want data to be sent in real-time. If not checked, use the Delay field to specify the maximum acceptable time difference between the current time and the last event displayed.
  4. The system notifies you that generating the aggregation task from the aggregation task may take a few minutes. Click Yes. You will see a notification message once the aggregation task is generated.

Since aggregation tasks have an impact on the overall system, Devo limits the number of active aggregation tasks per user.

Manage aggregation tasks

Administrator users can check all aggregation tasks and activate/deactivate them in the Aggregation Tasks tab of the Administration → Data Management area. Go to the Aggregation tasks article to learn more about this.
