Working with alert definitions

About alert definitions

Alert definitions are sets of conditions that you want to monitor and be warned about. This is achieved through a combination of query, monitoring criteria, and notification method.

The query is defined in the Data search area, where you access a data table and set the desired conditions. The monitoring criteria options available are determined by the specified query and are also established in the search area.

The notification methods are created and configured in the Administration → Alert configuration area, as well as assigned to the alerts defined in the search area, which are displayed here for configuration and management.

Data table registry of alert definitions

All alert definitions are registered in the devo.audit.alert.definition table at the time of generation. This table also maintains a comprehensive record of all subsequent changes they undergo during their lifecycle.

What tasks can be performed?

Working with alert definitions entail three different processes. The first two are part of the creation process while the third is aimed at managing created alert definitions:

What permissions do I need?

You need to have the following permissions to be able to work with alert definitions in its entirety, performing all the tasks involved in the process.

  • Finders (view) → this allows you to open searches in the search window, which is required to create alert definitions.

  • Alert configuration (manage) → this allows you to define new alerts in the search area, as well as access the alert configuration area to manage them.

    • My alerts (manage) → having at least one alert or alert category is mandatory to confirm the alert configuration permission. The view version will restrict your scope of access over these alerts.

  • (Optional) – Delivery methods (manage) → having permission over a delivery method allows you to create and manage that type of delivery method. Failing to have this permission will not prevent you from assigning delivery methods to sending policies, only from creating and managing them.
