Time range options for Activeboards

These are the different options available when you set a time range for an Activeboard, widget, or input using the interface. To insert time ranges manually, see the following article: Date language expressions for Activeboards.

Absolute date

You may want to see data from a specific time period. To do this, click on the time range indicator and select the start and end date using the calendar, then click Apply.

The Activeboard, widget, or input will be updated to display data from that period of time, and the specified range will be shown in the time range indicator.

Relative date

You may want to see data from periods of time relative to the current date (last 5 minutes, last day, etc.). To do this, click the time range indicator and select one of the options from the Preset intervals on the right, then click Apply. The Activeboard, widget, or input will be updated to display data from that period of time, and the interval selected will be shown in the time-range indicator. You will notice a green P icon, which indicates that a preset interval has been applied to the Activeboard, widget, or input.

Real-time:
When you select a relative date, the RT button is enabled in the time control area, at the top right, so you can activate real-time data flow in your Activeboard, widget, or input. Keep in mind that widgets and inputs with a custom date range will not be affected when you enable this option in the Activeboard time range selector. Be aware that refresh frequency might be slightly affected in those widgets and inputs with queries that group data, due to the interaction between real-time and grouping periods.

Snap-to date

You may want to see data without unrepresentative data samples resulting from analyzing incomplete periods. With this option, you go back in time to the starting point of the selected time frame. For example, if it is 10:53:17 on a Tuesday:

  • Snap to the day: you will see data beginning at 00:00 on that same Tuesday.

  • Snap to the hour: you will see data beginning at 10:00.

  • Snap to the minute: you will see data beginning at 10:53:00.

Click on the time-range indicator and click on the Snap to tab. Choose one of the options from the Preset intervals on the right, then click Apply. The interval selected will be shown in the time-range indicator. You will see a green P icon, which indicates that a preset interval has been applied to the Activeboard, widget, or input. The Snap to option is represented by the @ symbol.

Real-time:

When you select a snap to date, the RT button is enabled in the time control area, at the top right, so you can activate real-time data flow in your Activeboard, widget, or input.

Real-time

To update Activeboards, widgets, or inputs with real-time data, you can click the RT button in the time control area, at the top right (see button below).

Keep in mind that widgets and inputs with a custom date range will not be affected when you enable this option in the Activeboard time range selector.

Be aware that refresh frequency might be slightly affected in those widgets with queries that group data, due to the interaction between real-time and grouping periods. When this happens, an icon will appear in the widget showing the percentage loaded and its progress:
